Dev update 1

NCS — A New Chapter for Reactor Control

NCS is getting a major presentation and gameplay refresh.

Over the past updates, NCS has grown from a simple reactor-control simulator into a much deeper nuclear power-plant management game.

With the latest development work, I wanted to take a step back and improve something just as important as adding new features:

How NCS feels to play.

What is NCS?

In NCS, you operate a nuclear power plant and take responsibility for keeping the reactor running.

You have to balance:

Power → Safety → Staff → Resources → Technology → Demand → Growth

Every system affects the others.

Running at higher output can increase your income, but it can also put more pressure on the reactor.

Ignoring maintenance can save money in the short term, but equipment failures can become much more expensive later.

Your staff can help operate the plant, but they need to be trained, paid and managed.

The goal isn't simply to produce as much electricity as possible.

The goal is to keep the entire plant alive.

Reactor Control

The reactor remains at the heart of NCS.

You monitor and manage critical systems including:

  • Reactor output
  • Temperature
  • Pressure
  • Flux
  • Cooling
  • Water
  • Stability
  • Equipment condition

As you progress, increasingly advanced reactor technologies become available.

The further you go, the more powerful — and complicated — your plant becomes.

Your Staff Matter

A power plant needs people.

NCS allows you to hire, train and manage your personnel.

Operators, engineers and safety staff each contribute differently to the operation of your facility.

Their:

  • Skills
  • Morale
  • Traits
  • Salaries
  • Assignments

all affect your operation.

The goal is to build a crew that can keep the plant running even when things don't go according to plan.

Things Will Go Wrong

A perfect run doesn't exist.

Equipment can fail.

The grid can become unstable.

Unexpected events can threaten the reactor.

Emergencies force you to make decisions under pressure.

Do you reduce output?

Repair the problem?

Activate emergency systems?

Or take the risk and keep producing power?

Your decisions determine what happens next.

More Power = More Money?

Not necessarily.

NCS also includes an economic layer where you need to manage:

  • Electricity demand
  • Power prices
  • Revenue
  • Operating costs
  • Staff salaries
  • Maintenance
  • Plant efficiency

Sometimes running the reactor harder is the right decision.

Sometimes it is better to play it safe.

Learning when to push the plant — and when to back off — is a major part of the game.

From Basic Reactors to Experimental Technology

NCS features a progression system that lets you research increasingly advanced technologies and reactors.

Start with conventional systems and work toward much more advanced energy technologies.

Your plant can evolve from a relatively simple facility into an extremely advanced power-generation operation.

Campaign, Achievements & New Game+

NCS isn't designed to end after one successful reactor run.

Campaign objectives give you different challenges to complete, while achievements reward mastery of different parts of the game.

Once you've completed your progression, New Game+ gives you another way to push your operation further.

Progression Beyond the Reactor

NCS also includes:

  • Cloud saves
  • Statistics
  • Achievements
  • Leaderboards
  • Offline save fallback

Your performance can be tracked across your reactor career.

What's Next?

The next stage of development is focused on making all of these systems work together better.

Rather than simply adding feature after feature, I want NCS to feel like one connected game.

A decision in the reactor should affect your staff.

Your staff should affect efficiency.

Efficiency should affect your finances.

Your finances should affect your ability to upgrade.

Upgrades should change how you operate the reactor.

And the reactor should ultimately determine whether you can keep the grid supplied.

That's the direction I want NCS to move toward.

🛠️ Development Continues

NCS is still actively being developed.

Expect more:

  • Gameplay improvements
  • Balance changes
  • Reactor systems
  • Events
  • Technologies
  • Campaign content
  • UI improvements
  • Performance improvements

Thank you to everyone who has played NCS, tested the different versions, reported bugs, and given feedback.

More updates are coming.

NCS — Reactor Control

Build. Operate. Manage. Survive.

Run the Reactor. Manage the Plant. Keep the Grid Alive.
